The Aircraft Are at Oshkosh. In Twelve Markets, No Operator Has Arrived.
This week the aviation world gathers at Oshkosh, where advanced air mobility developers bring their aircraft to the largest airshow on the calendar. It is the one week a year the machines are easy to see. The harder thing to see is where any of them will actually operate. Our board held flat this week, all twenty five tracked markets holding their readiness score, with Los Angeles still leading at 72. Underneath that calm sits a sharper fact. The operator presence reading is zero in twelve of the twenty five markets we track. The aircraft exist. In nearly half of our markets, the operator does not, at least not yet.
|
Where the Operators Actually Are
Three tiers, drawn from the operator presence reading that feeds each market’s readiness score. Read them top to bottom. The distance from the first tier to the last is the state of the market.
|
ESTABLISHED OPERATOR PRESENCE · 9 MARKETS
New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, San Francisco, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Phoenix. The metros where our model records an active operator footprint of real weight. These are the markets with announced bases, standing operations, or route activity behind them. Nearly all of the operator signal on the board sits here.
|
|
THIN PRESENCE · 4 MARKETS
Orlando, Chicago, Charlotte, Tampa. A registered operator signal, but a faint one. Enough to separate them from an empty map, not enough to call a working presence. These are the markets to watch for the next real move up or down.
|
|
NO OPERATOR YET · 12 MARKETS
Salt Lake City, Columbus, San Diego, Las Vegas, Denver, Cincinnati, Washington DC, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Seattle, Nashville, Boston. The operator presence reading is zero. Several of these score respectably on demand and on landing infrastructure. What they lack is anyone operating.

Why the Operator Line Is the One That Matters
Demand and regulation can be built well ahead of operations. A city can have the population, the hospital network, the state framework, and the zoning in place and still have no aircraft based anywhere inside it. Operator presence is the one pillar that does not move on paper. It moves when a company signs a lease, files a route, or flies. That makes it the hardest reading to inflate and the most honest measure of how close a market really is.
Oshkosh is a fair mirror of the gap. The airshow is full of aircraft and full of intent, and both are real. The map is where you see which of that intent has landed somewhere specific. This week the honest reading is a concentration. Under a dozen metros carry the working operator presence, four more show a faint signal, and twelve read zero. The enthusiasm is national. The operations are not, and the line between the two runs straight through the middle of the board.
The distinction the tiers draw is the one worth holding onto. A market that talks about advanced air mobility and a market where someone is operating it should not read the same, and on our board they do not. The tiers above are not the loudest story of the week. They are the one that holds up when you ask a simpler question than any headline does. Who is actually there.

A note on the reading. Operator presence is one of the inputs to each market’s readiness score, distinct from demand and from landing infrastructure. The tiers here reflect that single input, not the full score, which is why a market can sit low on operators while ranking higher overall. It is also separate from the watch and trajectory layer recent issues have tracked, so a market can hold an established operator footprint while cooling, or warming, on the shorter term trajectory that layer follows. All twenty five markets held their published readiness score this week, so the tiers describe standing positions rather than moves. Every operator signal is traced to its source in the platform.
